Product Description:
If you want to build your own speakers, Speaker Box Calculator is a must-have tool for calculating the dimensions of a box for any particular speaker enclosure. The only information required to calculate speaker box dimension is the volume in cubic feet - the optimal box enclosure, which most speaker companies provide, and select a user difined ratio to height, width and depth. The program takes under consideration the thickness of the board and calculates the dimensions of all sides accordingly. It has 2 preset ratios for shape of the box and ability to adjust the ratio for a custom speaker shape. This speaker box calculator will make it a breeze to calculate the right dimension of the box for any size speaker or subwoofer box.

As you already know, for speakers (especially woofers) to work properly, they must be in the proper size enclosure. Size of the enclosure is important for the proper sound of speakers. Check the manufacturer's recommendations for the proper speaker-box volume to accommodate speakers. The manufacturer can give you the required enclosure volume but can't give the exact dimensions of an enclosure that will work, so that you can build an enclosure of the proper size in custom shapes.

Things to keep in mind when designing a speaker box:
  • One of the faces of the enclosure will need to have enough surface area so the speaker and ports (vented and bandpass) can be installed. For example, a 15" driver will not fit in an area (Width X Length) of 10" X 10". The speaker's diameter is too large. Dimensions will need to be constrained to make the driver/ports fit into the box.
  • When designing a vented or bandpass enclosure note the length of the port. Port length can become too long when using large diameter ports. For example, a 24" port will not fit into a 10"X10"X10" box. It will stick out of one of the sides. If this occurs, constrain dimensions.
  • Try not to place the speaker on the very edge of the enclosure. If possible, keep the speaker and ports three to four inches away from the edges and walls.
  • In summary, plan where you are going to place your speakers and ports. It's no fun to find out three hours into a building a box that your speaker will not fit.
